Natural wonders in Brem-sur-Mer

LA GACHÈRE VILLAGE AND MARSH

Explore this small fishing village, beside the Olonne marsh, recognisable by its typical lanes, white houses and colourful boats. Formerly a fishing village, there are now only a few oyster-farmers left, but the panorama has not changed and is still worth a look! Go to the small bridge of  La Gachère for a 360° panorama in the middle of the marsh.

PARC DES GENÊTS

The Parc des Genêts in Brem-sur-Mer is a lovely green space in the middle of the town. This peaceful three-hectare park offers beautiful walks between trees that are nearly a hundred years old, on foot or by bike. For children, you will find play areas and a hedge maze!

AUZANCE RIVER

This river is where fresh water meets salt water, and is the ideal place for angling enthusiasts. Please note that no fishing permit is required in this maritime domain! A haven of peace to discover in Brem-sur-Mer.

BEACH IN BREM SUR MER: PLAGE DES DUNES

Although it is located in Bretignolles-sur-Mer, the Plage des Dunes is only 600m from L'Océan Campsite with very easy access on foot! A magnificent fine sand beach just a short distance from the campsite, what more could you ask for?

In spite of being small (around 3,000 inhabitants in the low season), Brem-sur-Mer is nonetheless a lively town that knows how to highlight its local activities!

  • Brem-sur-Mer market

From mid-April to mid-September the Brem-sur-Mer market is held on the Place du Jardin de l'Océan and in the town centre. In the low season, the market is still held on the Place du Jardin de l'Océan every Friday.

You will be able to find many local products directly from regional farms and producers. In particular you will be able to taste specialities from Brem-sur-Mer: wines and troussepinette (aperitif from the Vendée), as well as many vegetables, meats and fish.

Take the waymarked path “Between vineyards and countryside” from the town hall and explore the vineyards of Brem-sur-Mer as well as a few historical sites in the town. In particular, you can visit La Mignotière and La Crulière, with its menhir which is also called “the Devil’s Stone”, listed as a Historical Monument since 1934.

We also recommend the long-distance hiking path which runs along the Olonne forest, and crosses the lock of Le Havre de la Gachère. You will then go back up along the dune, and can stop to visit the Saint Nicolas church before returning to the Brétignolles coast

Two hikes in Brem-sur-Mer which will enable you to visit the heritage of Brem-sur-Mer!
