Just because it's raining doesn't mean you can't have a good time! In the Vendée, there are plenty of places where you can enjoy a visit or an activity when the weather's not so good. 

As a coastal department, you'll of course find an aquarium in Vendée. In Talmont Saint Hilaire, near Les Sables d'Olonne, visit the Aquarium de Vendée, where you can see marine species from all over the world. Still on the theme of nature, discover the Ile aux Papillons in Noirmoutier and marvel at the hundreds of species of butterflies in this tropical greenhouse.

Historic monuments and buildings sheltered from the rain in Vendée

From a historical point of view, the Vendée is home to a multitude of monuments and sites that have stood the test of time. Places full of history that are well worth a visit.

You'll find plenty of churches, of all sizes and from all eras. We particularly recommend the church of Saint Nicolas, in Brem-sur-Mer, a stone's throw from our campsite on the Vendée coast, or the magnificent cathedral of Notre Dame de l'Assomption, in Luçon. 

There's no shortage of châteaux in the Vendée either. Many are open to visitors and offer shelter for the duration of a visit. Among the best known is the beautiful Château d'Apremont, which sits high above the town. The Château de Noirmoutier is also well worth a visit!
 

Museums to visit in Vendée when it rains

Would you like to know everything there is to know about the history of the Vendée? At Les Lucs-sur-Boulogne, the Historial de la Vendée retraces the history of the département, from prehistory to the present day. It's a must-see if you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Vendée.

For art lovers, the Musée d'Art moderne et contemporain in Les Sables d'Olonne is the place to visit during your holiday, rain or shine. Located in a 17th-century abbey, it's well worth a visit.

And finally, we haven't forgotten the gourmets! Head to the Musée du Chocolat in La Roche sur Yon. Between discovery and tasting, you won't be disappointed!
